Problem: I have a Tempurpedic mattress, which is 8-9" deep. Most, if not all, fitted sheets these days [USA] are made for deep, quilted mattresses. Hence, within a day of putting them on [even jersey sheets, which have stretch], they become very wrinkled and uncomfortable. Gadgets such as corner clips to go under the mattress & "Tugs" don't work adequately to keep the fitted sheet smooth. Vendors claim that sheets designed for deeper mattresses which have vertical stretch on their corners "work" for "any" depth mattress, but I'm skeptical, because you still have all the excess material which will "wrinkle up" on top. I would not mind leads to such sheets with vertical stretch corners, but the jury is out on whether they really "work". 2 possible solutions I have Google'd: 1. Stretch terry fitted sheets. This item exists a) in USA for baby's cribs, and b) in some European countries [though if found in Europe, then the problem exists of finding a correct size to fit a USA queen size mattress]. I found a lead via a UK Bed forum site from a USA woman looking for these for a double bed, dated back to 12-04. [I registered there & have emailed that woman, Christie, to see if she found anything--too soon to see if she answers.] The suggested UK links she was given were not useful. I tried to Google UK for stretch terry sheets, to no avail. Sweden is another option, notwithstanding the size issue noted above. 2. 8-9" fitted [cotton] sheets. These are what was "standard" before the advent of puffy, quilted mattresses, but now appear to be no longer available. I've tried Googling 8" fitted sheets, 9" fitted sheets, standard fitted sheets. [this latter--"standard"--resulted in Bed, Bath & Beyond's explanation of differing depths of fitted sheets; but, their site doesn't appear to have any "standards". [I got impatient & discouraged after one page of listings.] My next step is to start marketing the damn things myself! This is your mission. This tape will self-destruct in 10 seconds. Good luck. Hi Karen, Well, my mattress is over 10" deep and my fitted sheets did fit nice and tight, however after sleeping one or two nights, it got all wrinkly and uncomfortable. I found a solution that works for me. Now, you're going to laugh - but I quit using sheets! :) I found this to be quite a bit more comfortable than using sheets, but again, this works for me and might not appeal to anyone else. I have a nice mattress cover on the bed. (In fact, I have mattress covers on the box springs - but that's another topic.) I take a quilt and place it bottom side up (so the side you would put on top of you is the inside part) on the mattress. No need to tuck it in... it stays nicely put. That's my bottom fitted sheet - so to speak! I then take another quilt and place it on top of the bottom quilt. The top quilt is facing the correct way. It's pulled up to about halfway on top of my pillows instead of pulled up to the top of the mattress... this leaves a large amount at the bottom of the bed to tuck both quilts in under the mattress, keeping everything in place. (Basically, I'm sleeping between two quilts and it feels very soft and cozy.) I place a comforter over top of the top quilt and sleep like a baby. Making the bed in the morning is a snap. Just pull the top quilt over my pillows about halfway, and then pull up the comforter. I live in the hot southwest and even during the summer, this is very cool and comfy for me. Best regards, tlspiegel |
