Question ID: 558643
When saving a foto from the internet to my PC the A to Z Alphabetical
view of folders is reversed.

When viewing my folders and files as normal ( i.e. when I?m not using
the internet ) the view of folders and files appears as normal e.g. A
to Z.

BUT when saving a foto from the internet to my PC, instead of A to Z
Alphabetical view of folders the view is reversed i.e. Z to A.

i.e. it starts with X and finishes with A instead of beginning with A
and ending with X.

Can you tell me please how I can ensure that when saving a foto from
the internet to my PC the Folder view shows folders and files as A to
Z ?

Also, how do I ensure that I retain LIST view ( i.e. when I?m not
using the internet or saving fotos )
Some folders do retain list view and show their folders and files as a
list but other folders show their folders and files as icon view. I?ve
tried the following but it doeasn?t work :
Menu bar / Tools / Folder Options / View / Remember Each folder?s settings.

I?d greatly appreciate any help anybody can give.

Thank you

James

Hi James,

Regarding the first part of your question:
Where (which folder) do you save pictures from the internet?

For the 2nd part of your question try this:

Go into any folder and in the VIew tab set it at "List"

2. In the same folder, select Tools > Folder Options.

3. In Folder Options, click on the View tab .

4. Click on Apply to All Folders button

5. Click OK to complete action.

Now all your folders should be displayed in "List" mode.

Please let me know if that works.

Best regards,
Rainbow

Hi Rainbow.

I save into different Folders on my C drive.
When I try saving a foto from the internet to my PC, ALL the Folders
on my C drive show as reversed Alphabetical view = Z to A instead of A
to Z.

Thanks for the solution to the second part e.g. retaining list view. It works.

James

I'm glad I was able to help you with the 2nd part of your question.
However, I haven't been able to find a solution to the first part.
Hopefully another researcher will be able to help.

Best regards,
Rainbow

Howdy jimmyjazzer-ga,

Please try the following to handle your sorting issue.

- Go into any folder and in the View tab go to "Arrange Icons by"
- Click on "Name"
- This will sort the folders and files in alphabetic order
- Clicking "Name" a second time will reverse the listing, if needed
- Once set to how you like it, go to "Tools" and then "Folder Options"
- Click on the "View" tab, click on "Apply to All Folders" button, then "OK"

If that works, you should ask Rainbow to answer the question will all of the
above steps.

Hi
Have you tried these registry tweaks?

Take care to backup your registry before!

Newly discovered info which might help :

the Z to A prob is not Internet related ? I?ve just discovered that it
also happens when I try to perform a ? Save As ? on a Word Doc. The
folder and file view pops up in Z to A order.

I hope that helps because I can?t find a solution to this problem.

Thanks

Have you tried the steps posted in denco's clarification?

Thanks Rainbow.

I just tried it and it worked.
I hadn?t tried it before because it seemed to simply be exactly the
same thing that you had told me to do in order to achieve LIST view.
But there is of course a subtle difference.
It works and I?m delighted.

Thank you very much for taking the trouble to prompt me into trying
Denco?s solution and thank you very much for supplying the solution to
my List view problem.

I know it?s not exactly a fortune that I?ve nominated as payment but
as far as I?m concerned, principle dictates that both yourself and
Denco merit remuneration for supplying answers which work.

I?ve never actually paid a researcher yet so I?d appreciate it if you
could clue me in.
How do I pay both yourself and Denco ?

James

PS	Howdy Denco. Thanks for the solution. So simple I?d never have
stumbled on it by myself.

Howdy James,

I really have no problem with Rainbow collecting the total amount
for the answer. Just post a response to this that you will accept
Rainbow answering the question please. Rainbow has been a great
contributer to some of my answers. Just glad to have been of help,
and it was my pleasure!

The solution is not one that is terribly intuitive by the windows
interface, as in the "List" view you no longer have a "Name" column
to click, in order to alternate the alphabetic and reverse alphabetic
sorting.

Thanks Very Much Denco.
Its very gracious of you to wave the payment in Rainbow?s favour.

As I mentioned, I?ve never actually paid a researcher. According to
the FAQ it seems to be done the following way :
I am sent an email to confirm that a Researcher has answered my question.
I presume the E Mail provides an idiot proof guide to how to make payment.

My question has been definitely been answered. As per agreement with
Denco I would like Rainbow to collect the fee.

Once again, Thanks for all your help.

James

Hi James,

Thank you for asking me to post an answer to your question. I would
also like to thank my colleague denco for his kindness.

To pay a researcher, an answer must be posted here in the Answer Box.
Then the credit card on file with Google Answers will be charged at
the end of the month.

I hope this helps.

All the best,
Rainbow

Hi, Rainbow

Thanks for responding so promptly.

Is that ? Is the payment automatically made as soon as the Researcher
posts an answer as you?ve just done ?
Or is there something else I have to do ?

James

PS	I?ve posted another question re my System Restore not working. I
don?t know if that lies within the bounds of your specialist field.

Clarification of Answer by rainbow-ga on 25 Aug 2005 03:44 PDT
Hi James,

Yes, that's it. The payment is automatically issued. There is nothing
further you have to do.

Regarding your question on system restore, have you tried the
suggestion my colleague denco provided in his clarification? This
would be the most likely solution to your problem.

Best regards,
Rainbow
