What does the word "owned" mean, within the context "you are so owned!"

I refer you to (the rather humourous) message 5 in in the following
forum, and the repsonses in messages 6 and 17, referring to being
"owned".

I would have thought "busted" or "sprung bad" would have been
appropriate responses, but I fail to understand the use of the word
"owned" in this context.

Hello Eppy,

The normal meaning of 'Own = To possess an asset' definitely does not apply here.
Therefore, based on Slang dictionaries, we can conclude that the term
'Owned' in your link refers to a verbal defeat or verbal humiliation.
It also can also have the meaning of 'winning a victory over an
opponent', which also applies here as the loser, Brion was 'Owned' by
Faydra.
The term verbal humiliation is fitting because Faydra was jokingly
saying that Brion's mother visits that gaming forum.

If she was actually also reading that forum she MAY have posted a
comment. In such a case 'busted' would have been more appropriate. But
not in this case.

From the Berkely Online Slang Dictionary:
"OWN v 1. to defeat someone severely in a verbal argument or in a
competition. To "put someone in their place." Used frequently in
online gaming. When used to describe a verbal argument, the term is
generally used to describe a situation in which one person attempts to
deal a closing blow in the argument, but is shot down by evidence that
completely destroys the foundation of that person's argument. Possibly
originates from computer "cracker" slang: "own root," which means that
one "owns" the system administrator account, typically by possessing
its password. Also spelled pwn, pwned, etc. ("You just got owned!"
"I just owned you!") Submitted by Clay Webber, Tulsa, Oklahoma,
29-12-2002 and Patrick Moore, San Francisco, CA, USA, 27-11-2002. "

From the UrbanDictionary.Com:
"Own- To own.
To own is to beat an opponent while displaying a high degree of skill
and style.Headshot. Owned."

From Wikipedia.Org:
"wn, owned, OWN3D, ownt ? (see also pwn) To defeat someone (used
commonly when playing Counter-Strike) or to humiliate someone
tactically in a debate; to exhibit extreme coolness (for example:
"BMWs totally own")."

Thanks for that. The slang dictionaries are really helpful for future use.

btw, Faydra IS Brion's mother...
