Hello there researchers. I am making a word game and I am in need a a
word list/databse of all english words. For the life of me I cannot
seem to find a good database to go off of. Thanks for anything you can
do. Oh, one last thing, I don't mind paying for the database, doesn't
have to be free :)

Does the database need to be anything more than a list of words?

A list of "all" English words may be impossible to find. (I don't
think that any database or dictionary has literally all English
words.) Would a certain number of words be sufficient?

chadster-ga,

It's hard to know exactly what sort of database or list would best
meet your needs. But whatever it is, you're likely to find it at one
of the links on this page:

Do a bit of exploring, and let me know if these meet your needs.

There's a fun game called GoogleWhack where you try to find a two-word
Google search that has one and only one direct hit (result), and all
terms in your search must be in a dictionary, as judged by Google.
See www.googlewhack.com. The trick is that GoogleWhack disqualifies
whacks where the words, even if found in the Google dictionary, are
found only in a word list. The moral of this story is that there are
hundreds of word lists on the web, based on my having tried to find
legitimate GoogleWhacks and being disqualifed because the words only
appear in a word list, and not on a "real" web site. Try it and
you'll soon see what I mean.

For example, try Googling this phrase: somnambulistic peritoneum. You
should get 19 results, but look at those 19 and you'll see several
word lists. Thus, if somnambulistic peritoneum had only one unique
Google result AND that result was not just in one of those word lists,
we'd have a valid GoogleWhack!

English contains about 790000 words so it is impossible to make a
plain text dictionary but there is dictionary of about 20000 words
here.
