I have a close friend that is about to take some major comprehensive
doctoral level exams, similar to a bar exam in importance. I am trying
to find some really inspirational and motivational poems or stories to
boost her confidence right before the exam. Anything that relates to
boosting confidence, believing in yourself, preparation - knowing that
you did all you could, doing the best you can, trusting yourself, you
can do it rah rah stuff. Should be motivational, positive and
encouraging.

Thanks for the comments. While they are very inspiring, I am looking
for something that is not so religious based. Thanks.

1) Poem 1 - A Shoulder To Lean On

We live on this alien planet,
And as we journey through this life,
It can make us or it can break us,
As we seek God's everlasting life.

When worries cause us to stumble,
And our tears begin to overflow,
Praise God for His ray of sunshine,
That gives us the courage to grow.

When we dwell on our sorrows,
We'll wonder if we can make it through,
Give it all to our Holy Father,
He will always comfort you.

We all need a shoulder to lean on,
A friend to hold our trembling hand:
Jesus is our Master Healer,
When we follow His Father's command.

Count your many blessings,
In the midst of your darkest night,
Our Savior will reward us,
And our worst fears will take flight.

2) Poem2 - The Journey

The road ahead is unforeseen

Sometimes rough and very mean

Its hard to prepare and make good plans

When you've lost sight of the promise land

So open your heart and feel the LOVE

That is offered from our God above

This LOVE from God is not to hold

But to share with others and let unfold

As you do your gift will show

In all of your colors a positive glow

With God beside us as our shield

All the bitterness he shall heal

The road ahead now seems clear

With God as our guide we have no fear

3) Story1 - Life's Struggles

One day a man found the cocoon of a butterfly, with a small opening
just starting to appear. So, he sat down to watch as the butterfly
struggled for several hours to force its body through the hole. Then
it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared to the man that it
had gotten as far as it could.

Then the man decided to help the butterfly, so he took a pair of
scissors and snipped the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly
then emerged easily. But it had a swollen body and small shriveled
wings. The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected,
at any moment, the wings would enlarge and the body would contract, so
it could fly -- but neither happened. Sadly, the butterfly spent the
rest of it's life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled
wings. It was never able to fly, or be a truly beautiful butterfly.

What the man in his well meaning kindness and haste did not
understand, was that the restricting cocoon, and the struggle required
for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening, was God's way of
forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly, into its wings, so that
it would be ready for flight once it got out of the cocoon.

Sometimes, like the butterfly, the struggles we go through in life are
necessary, although we usually don't understand why. If God allowed us
to go through life without any obstacles, it could hurt our growth.
Then we would not be as strong as we should be -- and it could keep us
from soaring to the wonderful heights that HE has planned for you and
me.

I hope you find this inspiring enough. :-)

Dear friend,
You might want to check out the writings of Chuck Swindall. He's a
Christian Bible Teacher that comes on Radio sometimes. He's written a
number of books that are truly inspirational, and has an INCREDIBLE
gift for writing. One of his leadership books was called HAND ME
ANOTHER BRICK or something like that. Another extremely gifted writer
in the Christian vein is Max Lucado. Another gifted writer is John
Maxwell. You'll probably find genuine nuggets of inspirational
thoughts in books written by these 3.
Take care..................
