Hello, I would like to know ideally with some granularity (boardband vs. narrowband etc) the percentage of user IPs (US & World) that finish in .0 or .255. I know this is for "internal communications" but I already know of 2 people who were assigned such IPs by their ISPs. I would like to know with some precision how prevelent they are. Please give me sources so I can justify the answer to others as well. Thanks, Charles |

Hi, Nobody uses an IP address ending in either .0 or .255 for anything specifically (for a computer or network device). All IP addresses ending in .255 are typically broadcast addresses for a particular subnet and all addresses ending in .0 are addresses which represents that subnet. For example, 192.168.1.0 is an ip address for a subnet - the subnet being 192.168.1, and 192.168.1.255 would be the broadcast address for that subnet - i.e. the address you would use to send a packet of data to all machines on that subnet.
