Question ID: 559755
Where can I access a large library of movie stills, to be used for
online editorial stuff on a web page? I don't mind paying for rights,
but huge megaliths like corbis and getty are out of my budget. I'm
looking for a place that specializes mostly in movie stills and does
business online.

Hello!

There are a number of companies which provide stock photography like
the companies that you mentioned: Corbis, Getty. I presume that are
looking for Hollywood movie stills. Please confirm. Providing a figure
or range of your budget can help get the relevant company dealing in
movie stills.

Thanks,
muhammad-ga

Yes, I'm looking for Hollywood movie stills. My budget is, as cheap
as possible. The thing is, i've already licensed the movies but the
stills aren't part of the package, and I don't want to spend a lot
more money. The stills would generally just be for promotional
purposes.

Hello!

I have compiled a list of websites which deal in Hollywood Movie
Stills. I also came across some websites which are not conventional
stock photography companies but earn revenue through advertisements;
nevertheless, they also feature a comprehensive catalog of Hollywood
Movie Stills. Since you mentioned in your question that you already
have the ?rights? to the movie, please contact the source from where
you got these rights to check whether the rights include using Movie
Stills.

The websites which do not mentioned the price or do not deal in the
movie stills, or for that matter, stock photography business have the
customary Copyright notice in the footer of their websites: I,
therefore, strongly advise, to contact the website owner about using
their photographs. Again, I would like to point out that these
websites are made or owned by people who are not necessarily concerned
with copyright issues, since they do not sell the photographs and are
essentially B2C (Business to consumer) websites, so if the person who
sells you movie rights confirms that you can also use their stills,
then it would be a safer option to use the photographs of the websites
mentioned under ?Free Movie Stills? heading below in this answer.
