Question ID: 559900
Windows XP has made daily System Restore points on my PC.
I want to restore my PC to one ( any one ) of these earlier settings.
I perform the necessary actions i.e. choose a restore point for the C
Drive and confirm.
The PC then automatically closes down. Then it reboots. After
rebooting, up pops the message ? Changes could not be made. ?

I have tried many restore points from different dates but the result
is always the same i.e.
? Changes could not be made. ?

I?d appreciate any help that I can get.

Thanks

James

Howdy again James,

Have you tried running system restore in "Safe Mode" yet?

If not, please try doing just that by pressing the F8 key while
the computer is booting. You should then get a menu that will
allow you to start the computer in "Safe Mode" and once it is
booted, you can then try running system restore again.

The above will allow you to run system restore without most of
the programs that usually get started when you boot the computer,
getting in the way of the system restore.

Glad that worked for you, James!

Running the restore process in "Safe Mode" will sometimes get
the process to work when it refuses to operate from a "fully
loaded" mode.

To get to "Safe Mode" in WIndows XP, press the F8 key while
the computer is booting. You should then get a menu that will
allow you to start the computer in "Safe Mode" and once it is
booted, you can then try running system restore again.

The above will allow you to run system restore without most of
the programs that usually get started when you boot the computer,
getting in the way of the system restore.

Really glad that it worked for you, as this is not a "sure fire"
fix for this problem.

If you need any clarification, please feel free to ask.
