I have had depression with delusions for over 2 years. I have had
depression for almost 10 years on and off. Currently I have been
under doctors care for 3 years. What are my chances of getting social
security disability and what can I do to make my chances better.
Also, I sleep an average of 14 hours a day and do not do things I once
did

I worked as a social worker in the mental health field, so
let me see if I can help. You state you've been under a
doctor's care for 3 years, but you don't indicate if this
is a general practitioner, such as a family doctor. If
this is the case, it might still qualify you, but it may
be harder, as general practitioners are not considered
expert in diagnosing mental health conditions.

In order to improve your chances of receiving Social Security
Disability, it would be helpful if you scheduled an appointment
with a psychiatrist and were evaluated and diagnosed by them.

An inexpensive way to do this is through the public social
services in your area. You would probably then be assigned
to a case manager, and be given assistance in paying for
your meds and signing up for Social Security Disability.

Are you familiar with the local Behavioral Health system in
your area? I can assist you in locating service outlets if
you care to share what state you live in.

Let me know what else you might need to consider your question
answered to your satisfaction.

I am currently seeing a psycologist for talk therapy and another dr.
for medication management. I have been trying many different types of
medication, but nothing is helping completely. I am current on 300mg
zoloft, 30mg abilify, 200 mg provigil and 4 mg clonazepam.

While your clarification is informative, it doesn't really
tell me what further information you might need to satisfy
your interests in asking your question. You still don't
say if the Dr who prescribes your meds is a psychiatrist,
and if s/he's not, it may be more difficult to obtain SSD,
as I said.

Absolutely, if you can get the diagnosis and demonstrate that you
cannot support yourself, and a Doctor assists you with the mountain of
paperwork, you can qualify.

I was on SSDI for 6 years for depression. Thank God I got better. I
went to a neighborhood mental health clinic, in an emergency
situation. I simply had my fill of being sick and tired, or being sick
and tired. I went to psychotherapy, voluntarily. The therapist sent me
to the Department of Social & Health Services. When you apply for
"General Assistance, the state does not want you on the rolls, so they
also, concurrently, do all the paperwork for SSDI --Federal Benefits.
Most folks don't qualify, but I had a legitimate claim, and qualified.
The clinic did all the paperwork for me, I shuffled papers back and
forth, and I stayed in therapy, twice a week for 12 months, once a
week for 6 months. Anyway, there is a 4 month waiting period, so that
is the absolute fastest you can get on.

Get started right away, it was a lifesaver for me. If you would like
me to go into more detail, clarify your questions, based on my
experience, and I'll post in the Answer box.

mickeymouse200430,

Before anyone can Answer, we do need to know things.

How are you living now?
What is your source of income?
How much money do you make?
Do you own and assets? Real estate?
Are you unable to work? For how long?

We need details about your resources, assets, and even then, we can
only take an educated guess as to what the likely determination would
be.

~~Cynthia
