I took the prescription drug Ativan for about 6 months to get through
a stressful time in my life. Withdrawal was very difficult, but I've
been off benzodiazepines for over a year now. Unfortunately, I'm now
suffering from IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) as a result of having
taken it, and the symptoms have not gone away over time. I currently
take Prilosec to control the digestive problems, which helps a lot. I
can't eat any dairy products, and it's not because of the lactose. I
have tried lactaid milk and lactaid tablets, and they don't help at
all. The milk gives me a terrible heartburn, all the way from crotch
to Adam?s apple. Apparently I have a complete intolerance to SOMETHING
in milk, but I'm not sure what. (Whey is even worse than milk, btw.)
What is it in the milk that I'm not able to digest because of
benzodiazepines? And what is it about taking benzodiazepines that
caused the problem in the first place? In addition to not being able
to consume dairy, I also have a lot of bloating (gas) and both
constipation and sudden diarrhea, alternating. Are there any
prescription drugs which are recommended for this problem when
recovering from benzodiazepines? Prilosec works well, but it's not a
cure. Without the Prilosec, I can barely live my life, because I have
a constantly upset stomach which doesn't go away--I can't even sleep!
I want to know when this problem will end, if ever. I read that it can
take years at http://www.benzo.org.uk , but my question is why so
long? What causes it to go away? My goal is to better understand the
situation, and take action to remedy it, if possible. Your help is
greatly appreciated! |
