Hi, I need a list of every city and town in the United States. It needs to be in this format: Atlanta Miami Jacksonville Roberta ...and so forth. Note the list above is *just* cities ...with no states attached and no other text. I also need a separate list which includes the states like this: Atlanta Georgia Jacksonville Florida Warner Robins Georgia ...and so forth. Note that there are no commas. | |

In order to create the data set in my answer, I downloaded the US Concise file from USGS, and imported it into an Excel spreadsheet. US_concise.zip compressed file: 1.1 MB http://geonames.usgs.gov/stategaz/US_CONCISE.zip I then sorted the file based on the type of location column that includes the description "ppl". This stands for "populated places" and specifies polulated cities and towns. I then eliminated all the non ppl designations. I also had to enter the full name of each State (only abbreviations were provided). Lastly I copied the data to a word document and then saved it as a text document. |
