I am looking for income statistics for Horticulture careers in South
Florida. This should include: starting salaries for various fields,
average salaries and high salaries. Please include what experience is
required for each of these amounts (schooling, or experience in the
field or coursework). I am not interested in currently available
jobs, just potential in the field.

Native Floridian in the hort industry all my life. Talk about a wide
open question! How hard do you want to work? What skills do you have?
Current resident with construction or real estate contacts? Hourly you
can earn $8 - $20hr with typical benefits. The hort field is large and
diverse. Nurseries, greenhouses, property manangement, landscape
construction (my background), maintenance, and of course sales and
management in all categories. You can make $50-80K year with 5 several
years of solid experience (or less) depending on your personality and
work ethic. Six figures and higher is possible but like any other
profession - you must like what you're doing, be dedicated, and
passionate. Schooling required depends on the field and the position.
Key is to get started and apply yourself. The money comes second, not
first.

Two to four years of schooling in related field, business ed, computer
skills, hort knowledge and of course people skills will go along way
towards a salary above $40k year. Two weeks vacation is standard after
first year. 401k plans are fairly common. Health plans are available
in larger firms. Work experience of two to four years especially in
management will go along way towards earning $60k or more. Check with
national firms like John Deere, Brinkman, Florapersonnel. Good luck.
