Hi again bigjim...
Was there anything you installed relatively
around the time OE stopped working properly?
Microsoft might want you to think you can't
uninstall OE, but there isn't a whole lot
they can do to stop you from right clicking
on the folder c:\program files\Outlook Express
and selecting delete. Typically your mail
messages are stored in a different location,
but for safety, I'd go in OE to File/Export/
and export your current messages, and addresses.
After that I'd wipe out any physical trace of
OE, and just reinstall it from the last install
place. I presume your XP cd? Don't wipe it unless
you have something to reinstall it with ;-)
I don't want you to be muttering my name under
your breath with expletives, hehe
On XP, my email "folders" (actually just files)
are at:
c:\Documents and Settings\~username\Local Settings\Application
Data\Identities\{ID string}\Microsoft\Outlook Express
AFTER you have saved all of your messages... I
really think you ought to consider just erasing
everything (EXCEPT THE MESSAGES THAT YOU SAVED)
I'd start with the messages files first. If there
is a corruption with those, that will be the
simplest fix. When they are gone, if you start
up OE again, it will make new ones. If it opens
really quickly, the old messages files will have
been the culprit. If that doesn't help, nuke the
OE install directory, and reinstall. If that won't
do the trick, than something you installed recently
has overwritten a system file, like a DLL or VXD
and it is not working correctly with your system.
If that's the case, ALOT of trial and error follows,
ALOT...
Hope this helps,
