Who are the fund managers for Stanford University? I believe, but I'm
not sure, that the fund managers manage the investments of Stanford's
endowment.

Hello vjpedo,

It does not appear that Stanford uses the term or title "fund
managers" for the persons who manage the investments of Stanford's
endowment. Rather, there is a Chief Investment Officer, Michael L.
Ross, along with other investment staff, at the Stanford Management
Company.

"The Stanford Management Company (SMC) was established in 1991 to
manage Stanford's financial and real estate assets. SMC is a division
of the University with oversight by a Board of Directors appointed by
the University Board of Trustees.

SMC oversees approximately $12.0 billion of endowment and trust
assets, expendable funds, and commercial real estate investments."

"SMC, with assistance from its board, actively manages the endowment,
while remaining committed to a consistent long-term investment
strategy."

It may be relevant to note that Michael L. Ross, who is the Chief
Investment Officer of SMC as mentioned above, and Michael G.
McCaffery, President and Chief Executive Officer of SMC, signed SMC's
2004 report, which discusses investment of the endowment over the
previous 12 months.

This report is also contained in Stanford University's 2004 annual report.

pages 57-62 of the PDF file] [Note: SMC's Board of Directors are
listed on page 61 of the report, page 63 of the PDF file.]

In summary, Mr. Ross, along with other SMC staff and with assistance
from the SMC board, manages the investments of Stanford's endowment.

From a quick look at http://www.stanfordmanage.org/smc_endowment.html
I should think that SMC make the asset allocation decisions but that
the stock-by-stock decisions are outsourced to fund management houses
either through collective investment schemes (like mutual funds)
and/or through contracts for specific institutional portfolios.

"Fund manager" is usually used not as a job title (although it may be
that too) but as short-hand for "fund management company", "asset
management company".
