Question ID: 560736
I want to start selling on eBay. Although I'm english, I live in the
Czech Republic. I wanted to open a PayPal account so that I can accept
credit cards, but if I choose CZ as my country of residence, I'm
limited to only being able to purchase through PayPal and not receive
payments. I believe to accept credit card payments is essential to the
success on eBay and Western Union are seen as unsecure with no way of
retrieving or disputing payments. I have a bank account and credit
card in CZ. Could you tell me the best way to get round this problem
so that I can accept credit card payments without having to go to a
different country for a bank account and credit card? I would consider
another reputable service. Is it possible to say I live in the UK but
my credit card and bank are registered in CZ? Kind Regards, Dean

watch88-ga, thanks for the comment. I didn't live in the UK for 4
years, so I don't have any bank accounts there. At present I have no
plans to visit the UK.

Hello Dean

Thank-you for your question.

I have searched and searched the PayPal help files and my attempts to
contact PayPal have lead to nothing (they simply respond with nonsense
or not al all!). From the information I have found on their site you
need to have your bank account details in the country where you are
registered, so in your case as your bank is in the Czech Republic your
account should be too.

My recommendation to you would be to use another online payment system
as you suggested in your question.

https://www.moneybookers.com/app/?rid=1439774

Moneybookers.com now has over 1,000,000 registered users and allows
you to accept credit cards and withdraw money to your bank account in
the Czech Republic.

Their service allows you to accept credit cards and other methods of
payment from any user around the world. They have many advantages
over PayPal too, their fees are cheaper and as is the cost of using
the credit card as payment.

PayPal usually charges the seller a fee for receiving money,
Moneybookers fees are detailed here.
http://www.moneybookers.com/app/help.pl?s=fees

Moneybookers also have several different methods of payment available
for merchants allowing non-moneybookers customers still to pay (PayPal
forces customers to sign up which is a disadvantage):
"The customer can now pay for the transaction via the following payment options:
# Option 1 - If the customer has already a Moneybookers account, he
can pay directly from his Moneybookers balance and confirm the
transaction with his Moneybookers login credentials.
# Option 2 - The customer can pay the merchant via offline bank
transfer. Domestic payments are supported in over 30 countries. A
unique transaction ID will ensure that the payment can be tracked to
the specific purchase at DEMO-SHOP.COM. This option is very convenient
for customers who do not have a Moneybookers account yet.
# Option 3 - The customer can also pay DEMO-SHOP.COM instantly via
credit card or direct debit from any German bank account (this option
must be specially requested before by the merchant). This is also a
very convenient way to pay for customers who do not have a
Moneybookers account yet."

With all the bad press surrounding PayPal (http://www.paypalsucks.com)
I have stopped using PayPal as a method of payment as have many others
and now use moneybookers exclusively. If something goes wrong in your
transactions with PayPal, many people have reported it is practically
impossible to get anyone to respond or for you to talk to them in
person. They may be the largest company of its sort but are they the
best?

The paypalsucks.com website also suggests a number of other payment
alternatives to use.

I hope this answer fully solves your problem. Should you require any
further information please do not hesitate to ask for clarification.
