Question ID: 561113
What is the Washington Redskins Tailgate Club? Who owns it? Is it part
of the Daniel Snyder Redskins organization? Is there a board of
directors who make decisions about how the club operates? Do these
people meet regularly and do they make make changes weekly or just at
the beginning of season? These would be decisions about times allowed
to enter the stadium, cost of the initial registration fee, cost of
the food program for the games, food that is served and how is it
purchased. Who would someone get in touch with to ask specific
questions and is there a chain of command in case you are not
satisfied with the answer from the first person.

Dear bubbe1809-ga;

Thank you for allowing me an opportunity to answer your interesting
question. Judging from the implied expectations of your questions I
think you're in for a suprise if not a disappointment.

>>>What is the Washington Redskins Tailgate Club?

The Washington Redskins Tailgate Club is touted as ?Washington's
biggest and best pre-game and post-game Tailgate party in a safe and
secure pavilion next to the stadium!? One of the purposes of the
organization is help fans avoid the traffic getting to the stadium and
avoid the lines getting into the gates while having the most fun
?tailgating?.

>>>Who owns it?

The Washington Redskins

>>>Is it part of the Daniel Snyder Redskins organization?

Yes. The Washington Redskins Tailgate Club was originally part of
Daniel Snyder?s Touchdown Club, an effort on Snyder's part to increase
the organization?s revenue. ?It is modeled after similar programs
operated by the Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Dolphins and includes
mid-field lower bowl seats as well as a catered pregame party, pregame
field passes, parking and a trip to a Redskins game in either
Philadelphia or New York?

?Since buying the Redskins in 1999, Snyder has signed sponsors, added
more premium seating and luxury suites, opened Redskins merchandise
stores and signed up fans for value-added items such as the Tailgate
Club.?

>>>Is there a board of directors who make decisions about how the club operates?

The Tailgate Club is merely a value added bonus to the Touchdown Club.
It is a marketing campaign ? a pricing ?strategy?. There does not
appear to be a ?board? or activities director. What transpires there
appears to be part of the Redskin?s marketing department?s vision. In
spite of how it is presented the The Tailgate Club seems to be a
concept, not an event.

>>>Do these people meet regularly and do they make changes weekly or
just at the beginning of season? These would be decisions about times
allowed to enter the stadium, cost of the initial registration fee,
cost of the food program for the games, food that is served and how is
it purchased. Who would someone get in touch with to ask specific
questions and is there a chain of command in case you are not
satisfied with the answer from the first person.

Again, what happens at the Tailgate Club is part of the enhanced (ie.
premium paid ticket) Redskins experience. It is not an exclusive
investment in a sports organization. The Tailgate Club fee gives a fan
an enhanced experience above and beyond the regular fan expectations.
It?s a kind of VIP treatment, not an event. ?The TailGate Club
includes a one-time initiation fee of $1,295, plus a $490 season pass
for all 10 Redskins home games. In addition to lower-level seats,
which are scattered throughout the lower bowl, TailGate Club members
have access to a cordoned-off pavilion area just outside the stadium,
where food is provided and fans can listen to music and watch
wide-screen television.?

It does seem that someone paying those types of fees would actually
become a paying member of some organization but let?s no lose sight of
what this is really all about ? revenue! Again, I?ll point you back to
this who believes it can sum up the whole confusing thing in a couple
of sentences:

?Although the food and music have value, these are mere sweeteners
which obfuscate the primary intent of the scheme: to extract value
from fans on the waiting list who have the money, and can't wait to
get their season tickets to the Redskins.

Both the Touchdown Club and the Tailgate Club are what economists call
two-part tariffs, a classic pricing scheme which increases a firm's
profit over and above what they can make with simple single ticket
price.?

Hmmm. A ?scheme?, huh??.If that?s how it is I think we understand the
way it works now.

What a bummer.

I really appreciate the quick and very detailed answers. I didn't
realize it was that interesting a question. I am pretty sure that no
one questions what ever the Redskins organization does. I do want you
to know that I am not the least bit surprized and I have already been
disappointed with this whole issue. Before I continue I would like to
ask about the privacy of my question and your answer and what happens
to our continued discussion (for which I am very happy to pay, if
needed. There are some more things that I need clarified and these
questions may be a bit more sticky. I also have been at work for 10
to 12 hours per day for the last 2 weeks and my google question was my
only relaxtion. I will try to continue tomorrow evening when I should
have more time and I have heard from you about the privacy. Thank you
for your very thorough answers to this perplexing question of mine.

I would like to have further clariication as I think that we are
miscommunicating on what I wanted from my question. If that is not
possible I will ask anothr question and request the person who
answered my first one. That is why the rating is a 4 instead of a 5.
