I'm trying to learn the name of an apparently rather obscure song sung
by Al Green. Despite running a number of searches, checking several
online lyrics sites and listening to more than a few song samples, I'm
still coming up empty-handed. I know it was sampled for a rap song a
few years ago, but I'm unsure of the artist (perhaps Snoop Doggy Dogg)
so that hasn't helped. Here are some of the lyrics:

I never knew loving you could be this way

Now my heart is yours, so come what may

Now my search has finally come to an end

So now sweet baby, where do we begin?

I never knew loving you could make life so sweet

The more I think about it, you made my life complete

Ooh the thought of losing you baby really shakes my soul

I could never face the fact that you'd ever, ever go

'Cause any time you say, I'll be right by your side

Any time you need me, I'll be right by your side

Any time you want me baby I'll be right there

By your side

I'm wondering if maybe it was a collaboration with someone else--an
instrumentalist, maybe?--and that's why I'm having such a time nailing
it down? Just an idea. Maybe it's an album track, not a single. Maybe
the answer is really obvious, but I am officially stumped.

Its a guess, but could the rap song be "Dog N'Me" by Art N'Soul? I
think that had some Al Green sampled, & it has a dog connection!

Thanks for the suggestion, bigconchie. I haven't heard "Dog N' Me",
but I'm pretty sure the rap song was by a well-known rapper--Snoop,
Ice Cube, somebody like that. Most probably a song that featured
several rappers. I believe it was the bassline of Al Green's song that
was used. Also something I'd like to add: I'm pretty good at guessing
the general time period a song sounds like it's from, and I would say
that the Al Green song is probably from the late '70s, no later than
the very early '80s, if that helps. It's certainly from a later time
than, say, "Let's Stay Together".
