I am looking for a legal firm that SPECIALIZES in Federal Direct
(Stafford) Student Loan Debt and possible filings for bankruptcy
discharge of these kinds of loans. Further I need legal advice on the
consequences of defaulting on Federal student loans (specifically
Stafford/Direct/Consolidation) loans. It would be ideal if the law
firm were in the Washington D.C./Northern VA/Southern
Maryland/Baltimore Metro region.

Actually, I don't think you can discharge these in bankruptcy (I could
be wrong - this is just what I've heard). I know someone that
defaulted on federal student loans - she doesn't get income tax
refunds and her wages are garnished to pay back the loans, but if I
recall it took them awhile to catch her. If you don't have the money
to pay your federal loans, then maybe you should ask for a
forebearance.

Well, in my situation I may be forced (unexpectedly) to go to a third
world country to care for an elderly person for an indeterminate
period of time (this person cannot herself leave this third world
country to be in the US with me). I'll have zero income. It's a
difficult situation and I have no assets of any sort and the loan is
massive (120K+).
