How do I find out who owns a property? I'm interested in finding out
the name and contact information of the owner of a house. The house
isn't occupied and it isn't listed for sale on the multiple listings.
The house is located in Carson, CA.

Dear c12719,

To find the owner of a property in Carson, CA, please use the city's
online property database:
http://198.179.206.7/website/carsonplan/gis.asp

Simply type in the address of the property. You will get, among other
data, information about the owner and contact information.

I hope that this will help!

Scriptor

Thank you very much. I'm looking for owners of several other
properties as well in various counties throughout CA and AZ. Is there
a general method of going about this? Years ago you could give a call
to the county assessors office and get the info over the phone. The
link works well for Carson - thanks. I should have stated the question
more clearly. My fault.

Dear c12719,

Unfortunately, there is no general method since not all counties and
towns already have online databases with property records. But many
do, so it is always worth to first have a look at the respective
county's or city's website and see whether they have an online
information system like Carson. Currently, here is no central database
with such information, so in order to collect ownership information
from various places, it would be necessary to gather the desired data
bit by bit from the sources available.

"...so in order to collect ownership information

bit by bit from the sources available." What sources?? Is it possible
to get this info from the county assessors office in person?
Recorder's Office? What about property tax records, where are they
kept and are they availible in person or otherwise? How does a real
estate agent obtain this info?

As stated in the comment below, the property records are still public
records. Unfortunately, it seems that county and city employees are
increasingly unwilling to take the trouble of providing such
information to persons requesting them by telephone.

Yes, the information is available to the public, as the online
counties' sites demonstrate. If the assessors' offices will no longer
trouble to give it to you on the phone, you can visit them and find
the information.
