Hi overnightcopy,
After compiling two lists of 100 greatest players of all time, I am
unable to locate a single list of the 100 best players today. I have
however, located several other lists:
*Top 100 paid players in 2005
*Top 100 MLB.com Fantasy Baseball Preview for 2004
*Top 100 MLB.com Fantasy Baseball Preview for 2005
Please let me know if this information would interest you.
Best regards,
Rainbow

I don't know much about Fantasy players and salaries aren't a good indicator.
For current day players, you can go according to top all time batting
averages as of the end of last season.
For historic, Hall of Famers would do.
I need the names only, no teams or years.
Ideally in a .csv file.

You say: "For current day players, you can go according to top all
time batting averages as of the end of last season."
See these lists:
Batting Average: All-Time Leaders (Current Through 2004 Season)
'Top 100'
http://www.baseball-almanac.com/hitting/hibavg1.shtml
Batting Average: Single Season Leaders (Current Through 2004 Season)
'Top 100'

Regarding Hall of Famers: There are more than 100. Do you want the complete list?
Waiting to hear your views.

For current players, according to their batting average, would this suffice?

H overnightcopy,
I have located a site where you can specify the criteria you would
like to get players' comparisons. For example I selected the
following:
Start Date: 4/4/1990
End Date: 8/27/2005
Sort by: Batting Average
Descending
Minimum Plate Appearances: 502
Here is the result:
http://www.baseballmusings.com/cgi-bin/CompareInfo.py?StartDate=04%2F04%2F1990&EndDate=08%2F27%2F2005&GameType=all&PlayedFor=0&PlayedVs=0&Park=0&SortField=Case+When+AtBats+%3E+0+Then+Hits%2FAtBats+else+0.0+end&SortDir=desc&MinPA=502
(Sorry about the long url)
Looking forward to your clarification.
Best regards,
Rainbow
