I request from the irs an extension to "file late." The irs grants me
permission to file late. I deem that I will owe 2000 dollars for the
tax year which normally should be paid by April 15th. With the
extension granted me by the irs, is there a mandatory tax or penalty
incurred by me? I plan to pay the 2,000 on the exnension date. If so,
what irs regulations states this?

Even if you are granted an extension to file your tax return, your
money is still due on April 15. If you wait until August 15 to pay
money due, you will be assessed penalties and interest. There is an
IRS form to figure out your penalty and interest. However, the IRS
will figure it and bill you if you do not complete the form.

to research help.... that is all underestood. i have a bet that even
though someone requests an extension....and it is approved, you have
to pay the penalty or interest. please give me the name of the form
which says you have to pay a penalty and or the interest and i will
accept the answer......thanks...

I am not an official researcher, but above is the form that you must
file for an extension. It states in several places that although you
may extend the time to file your return, this does not extend the time
to pay (without a very good reason.) Interest and penalties apply to
late payments as described also in the form and its instructions.

Research_help....Please let me know. I see where you say you are not
an official researcher. I will accept your answer if in fact I owe you
the 3.00dollars. If not, I am going to cancel the question. I just
want to make sure and thank you..........
