Synonyms: mind, intellect, intelligence, brain, wit, 1reason
These nouns denote the capacity of thinking, reasoning, and
acquiring and applying knowledge. Mind refers broadly to the
capacities for thought, perception, memory, and decision: ?No passion
so effectually robs the mind of all its powers of acting and reasoning
as fear? (Edmund Burke). Intellect stresses knowing, thinking, and
understanding: ?Opinion is ultimately determined by the feelings, and
not by the intellect? (Herbert Spencer). Intelligence implies solving
problems, learning from experience, and reasoning abstractly: ?The
world of the future will be an ever more demanding struggle against
the limitations of our intelligence? (Norbert Wiener). Brain suggests
strength of intellect: We racked our brains to find a solution. Wit
stresses quickness of intelligence or facility of comprehension:
?There is no such whetstone, to sharpen a good wit and encourage a
will to learning, as is praise? (Roger Ascham). Reason, the capacity
for logical, rational, and analytic thought, embraces comprehending,
evaluating, and drawing conclusions: ?Since I have had the full use of
my reason, nobody has ever heard me laugh? (Earl of Chesterfield).

Cvkcvk, Great question! Your question has been answered properly in expertise by Elids. However, your question raises the perception of placement and interaction of the mind and body. I believe that this is where your question is headed. Decapitate a body and life no longer exists for that body. Remove the heart or lungs and the result will be somewhat similar. I used to think that the mind and body were independant, separate from one another. I realised of course that each is co-dependant upon the other. The body creates a vehicle for the mind to experience. The mind creates an environment for the body to respond. Each interacts with messages of action and reaction. Indeed the mind lies within the brain. It could be humorously argued of course that a man has two brains. One from the head; the other directed by an appendage. Regardless, the action or reaction decision is made from the brain found within one's cranium. Remove a toe, a leg, an arm, an organ .. provided that life continues, thought patterns are derived from the cranial brain. Silver |

Mind is not any organ of the body like brain, heart, kidney or lungs.Simply put, it is the 'function' of the brain. It is analogous to saying, brain is the hardware and mind its software. |
