Hello, Next week I'll be on Boston for a triathlon race and I'ld need to find a good and cheap swimming pool in the area where to do some training. I'll be in Tremont Hotel, in the Tremont street. I need a brief list of (5-10) nearest cheap standard-lenght swimming pool in this area. Thanks | |

Good evening outmarcu! The hotel?s address is 275 Tremont Street, Boston, Massachusetts 02116. ( http://www.ymca.net ) provides a great search option. Putting in the zip code of 02116 resulted in 20 YMCA?s, the closest being .047 miles away and the farthest, 7.67 miles away. The closest one to your hotel is: 8 Oak St West Boston, Massachusetts 02116 617-426-2237 Hours of Operation: Mon: 5:00am to 10:00pm Tue: 5:00am to 10:00pm Wed: 5:00am to 10:00pm Thu: 5:00am to 10:00pm Fri: 5:00am to 10:00pm Sat: 6:00am to 7:00pm Sun: 9:00am to 5:00pm I spoke with Sara about the pools and she told me that there is a lap pool there with one lane open at all times. At various times throughout the day, they open the entire pool for people wishing to swim laps. She has a schedule at the front desk. The only catch is, there is a small fee ? but it is good for the entire day. $5.00 if you come with a YMCA member or are a member yourself, either in the states or in Italy. $10.00 if you are not a YMCA member and do not have one accompanying you. Sara can verify that most of the other places around Boston are either recreational pools or have a membership required policy. I would suggest you give them a call as the local YMCA is withint walking distance and probably your best option. I hope this answers your question. If you would like clarification before rating my answer, please do not hesitate to ask! Nenna-GA Source: (http://www.ymca.net ) Google Search Term: Treamont Hotel Boston MA |

I have stayed in the Treamont Hotel while vacationing in Boston. You should enjoy it thoroughly. Its a classic, althought our room didnt have a view :) Anyways, have you investigated the YMCA in Boston? Often, the YMCA will offer a limited "guest pass" for short trips or stays. (they certainly do at the YMCA here in Milwaukee, WI) And if I recall correctly the YMCA in Boston offers a swimming pool. Most have lap lanes, soley for those who want to do laps. meaning they rope off part of the pool for recreational use so you wont be disturbed. You could just get a trial membership for your stay, or even a 3 day guest pass. just ask, provide them with your prediciment and they should be able to help. I mapped the location and the YMCA is only 2 miles from the hotel. Definately walkable while in the downtown/boston commons... www.ymcaboston.org located at 316 Huntington Ave, Boston MA 02115 I am not a google researcher, just simply adding in my 2-cents. |

As you have seen on that site, no pools over 25 yards. Using the Tremont HOtel address, with Mapquest you can get directions and distance to the addresses of the pools on the swimmsite. http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?country=US&city=boston&state=MA I found that the China Town YWCA at Oak Street may be as close, and also has an arrangement with another hotel. That suggests asking Tremont Hotel if it has such an arrangement. You probably have already considered asking the triathlon organization if it has any arrangements for training, perhaps with the universities, whose pools may be unused at this time. If you have to search yourself: Here is the Harvard site with an email address, and it has a 50 mtr pool: http://www.athletics.harvard.edu/aquatics/about.html It is not so close (somewhere near the H. Stadium on the Boston side of the river). MIT is a little closer, no details about the pool: http://web.mit.edu/athletics/www/facilities/index.html And here is the site for Northeastern University: https://www.campusrec.neu.edu/facilities.shtml Good luck - and especially for the competition!
