Hello acoyoli,
At the outset, I should note the disclaimer at the bottom of this
page, which states that answers and comments provided on Google
Answers are general information, and are not intended to substitute
for informed professional legal advice.
Federal government agencies indicate that a servicemark, rather than a
copyright, can apply to a name for a service. The United States
Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) gives this summary of trademarks
and servicemarks:
"A trademark is a word, name, symbol or device which is used in trade
with goods to indicate the source of the goods and to distinguish them
from the goods of others. A servicemark is the same as a trademark
except that it identifies and distinguishes the source of a service
rather than a product. The terms 'trademark' and 'mark' are commonly
used to refer to both trademarks and servicemarks."

Your web site suggests that you and your group are located in
California. That state also has provisions for obtaining a service
mark.
