Hello dante13-ga Thank-you for your question. According to the American Hospitals Association on October 25, 2004 there were 5,764 registered hospitals in the USA. The following webpage also provides a further breakdown of these hospitals into categories such as community hospitals, federal government hospitals, psychiatric hospitals and long term care hospitals. http://www.hospitalconnect.com/aha/resource_center/fastfacts/fast_facts_US_hospitals.html While searching for your answer it is obvious that there is some variation in numbers given by various sources; this is due mainly to hospitals opening and closing and the age of the reports. The value I gave above was the most recent value that I was able to find from what I would call a reputable source. Most indications gave the number of hospitals as approximately 6000 which would tally with the answer from the AHA. If you require any further assistance on this subject please ask for clarification and I will do my best to help. Search strategy: Google - "there are * hospitals in the us" |
