I am not trying to cheat the system or find some loophole but my
license was also suspended in Alabama in 2000 and it seems like it is
impossible to get back. I have written the department of Public
Saftey 3 times requesting a hearing or anything to be reviewed for a
'hardship license' at least. They just send back a print out. Anyway
I have stumbled across this google answer today and I am going crazy
trying to find answers so I'll ask here. I would like to know how
robert4878( http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=550458#a )
got his Canadian license and if anyone knows how to request
a hardship license, a hearing for an early reinstatement, or know if
another state would be easier to do this in. (I am planing on moving
to WA at the end of this year). I would be extremely grateful for any
help.

Hello,

Could you tell us what your licence was suspended for, the period of
suspension, and that the "print out" says that you get back. The more
details, the better we can help you.

Yes, In the '90's I recieved a possession of marijuana charge which in
Alabama was a fine and license suspension at the time and usually was
waived but not for me. I also had a DUI.
In 2001 i got a second DUI and because it was my 3rd subsequent
suspension it was automatically a 3 year suspension. I was pulled over
for a headlight being out and cooperated thinking I was not too
intoxicated but after passing the field sobriety test i blew a .08
into the breathalyser. One month later I was pulled over by the same
police officer and I refused to take a breathalyzer because I did not
trust the machine.
At that time refusal of a breathalyzer automatically suspended your
license reguardless of guilt and I have been told that this has since
changed in Alabama. I was not found guilty for that DUI by the way
but the additional 3 year suspension added consecutively to the one
month prior DUI made my license suspension 6 years.
I no longer drink let alone drink and drive and do find DUI's
unacceptable. Even though I believe my license has been suspended
improperly long all I want is a legal way to drive to work. The
printout I have recieved twice just says eligability date is OCT 16
2007 and the reinstatement fee is $281. Here is a scan
