Our hospital is doing a study regarding the relationship between age
and the amount of pressure our staff feels in relation to their jobs.
Based on questions we asked our staff, we came up with the following
information. Do you think there is a relationship between job
pressure and age?

Degree of Job Pressure
Age(years)	Low	Medium	High
Less than 25	22	16	22
25 up to 40	58	42	40
40 up to 60	54	63	63
60 and older	16	53	51

Hello wagner-ga,

I?m not sure exactly what you are looking for so I am posting this as
a request for clarification rather than an answer. I made some plots
of your data and, if you are looking for an opinion, my opinion is
that the data does not show a strong correlation between the feeling
of job pressure and age except for in the 60 and up age group. In
that group, only 13% of respondents sited low job pressure. 87% of
respondents felt at least medium pressure, 43% reported high pressure.
The other age groups show a relatively equal distribution between
low, medium and high. You can see my Excel Spreadsheet at the link
below. Is this the type of information that you are looking for?

Perhaps I should reword what I said previously and say yes, there does
appear to be a correlation between job pressure and age. The
employees aged 60 and up seem to feel more job pressure than the
younger employees.

Presumably all the staff do not carry equal levels of professional
responsibilty. What is the breakdown of job description among the age
groups? Are the older people in more responsible positions, whci could
account for their higher perception of pressure.

Angy-ga has a very good point. It can be expected that the members of
the youngest group have very little individual responsibility, whereas
those in the oldest group are those with the greatest responsibility,
not only for patients but also for staff administration, for the
hospital operation as a whole. Furthermore, they may be more
conscious of the ramifications of this responsibility as well as no
longer being so resilient as they once were.
In the younger middle group, there are still lots of persons in
positions of lower responsibility, but also young doctors who may feel
very stressed by their new responsibility and the long hours they have
to put in.
The 40-60 group could include very experienced - unstressed - lower
level staff and a mix of those with greater and lesser responsibility.
