I'm looking for a company that offers full searching of the WHOIS
database. For example, being able to find all domains registered to a
specific person or email address. I know that the current whois
servers don't allow for such searching, but about two years ago I
found a company that was able to offer it because they maintained
their own whois database by indexing new/changed domains over many
years. I don't remember the name of the company, but I do remember
that the service was not free. I also remember that this service was
one of many domain and WHOIS related services the company offered.

Hello scsscs2-ga

"The Whois Source website is powered by an extensible XML API which
currently indexes all domains in the .COM, .NET, .ORG, .INFO, .BIZ,
and .US TLDs. That is 55,967,779 domains as of today. In addition to
indexing every active domain, it also knows about the 54,879,543
inactive domains that have been registered and deleted since the early
days of the Internet. Great names are deleted daily so it is important
that we keep track of them.

The partial word searching ability of Name Intelligence is unmatched
by any other engine. We allow more options and faster results then
anything else on the market and we continue to add new functionality
monthly. In an information world a company can only focus on so many
problems at one time. We dedicate our time to making domain searching
faster and more efficient so our partners can dedicate their time to
their own core technologies.

Every month Name Intelligence actively probes every domain name in its
search engine to figure out the domain's status. Our search results
not only reflect active and deleted domains but domains with websites
or not. We have taken searching for domains very seriously."

Does this sound familiar? Do you think this is the company you are looking for?

The company allows you to discover all the domain names hosted at
specific IP addresses by simply searching their database for the
domain name and then clicking a link. As also mentioned in your
question the company provides many other related services.

Would the details of this company be sufficient for an answer?

Thanks for the attempt, palitoy, but Name Intelligence does not offer
the kind of searching I want to do. I want to be able to search for a
name ("Tom Jones") or email address ("tom.jones@gmail.com") and find
all the domains who's WHOIS record contains that information.

Dialog's OpenAccess searching has some of the capability you asked about.

Head to:

http://openaccess.dialog.com/ip/

and click on "Domain Names" over on the left hand side of the page.
This will open up a Whois search form allowing a variety of search
types, including ownership of the site.

It is the ONLY Whois database with extended search capabilities that I
am aware of...and believe me, I've looked!

The search will return a list of sites at no charge. But there is a
fee for accessing full records.

Let me know if that meets your needs.

Dear Scsscs2,

I'm pleased that name.con meets your needs!

"Reverse Whois allows users to perform advanced searches in Name.com
Whois catalogue. With this tool, users may search for domain names by
any relevant variable-registrant name, phone number, etc. Results are
then returned in a professional report that includes full Whois data
for each flagged domain name."

Why is Name.com's Whois database unique?

"Name.com has amassed an extensive Whois library of generic Top-Level
Domains (gTLDs). In addition to current Whois records, our database
has cached millions of records from the past 3 years. Currently, our
Whois collection contains 26.4 million historical and 46.2 million
active records. These records are compiled through a variety of
channels, including queries performed on our active Whois portal."
