What companies (Specific Stock Names) and industries are thought to
have benefitted financially from the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew?
I'm interested in Stock Prices before and around 90 days after the
hurricane.

Seneca21 --

A couple of things are confusing about this question, not the least of
which is stock prices "90 days after" an event that took place 5 days
ago.

The financial pages are full of speculation on market impact,
especially in the oil/refining/natural gas markets -- if only because
of damage to the U.S. infrastructure. If you're in the U.S. you've
already seen the impact across the lower 48 states in gasoline prices.
Do you want to list whole sectors (there are hundreds of companies in
the oil & gas related businesses) or specific companies?

Best regards,

Omnivorous-GA

seneca21-ga,

There were a fair number of articles in the aftermath of Andrew
regarding stocks that either did well, or that were expected to
benefit from the storm. These included the makers of roof shingles,
mobile homes, builders and related activities, specialty construction
such as electrical sub-stations, retailers such as Home Depot, etc.

Oddly, several analysts also predicted the storm would benefit
insurance companies, as it provided them an opportunity to hike
premiums.

I can name many of the individual companies mentioned in a variety of
articles. However, to actually track their stock performance back in
1992-93 would extend well beyond the scope of a $25 question.

Let me know if the information I have would be of interest to you as
an answer to your question.

Well, If you can tell me the baseline Index of the Industry Groups before and
90 days after that would work for me as well. That is the percentage
difference in Industry Groups that did did well in the 90 days after
Hurricane Andrew and by what Percentage.

Let me know.

As someone who lived through Hurricane Andrew in Miami, I can assure
you it was not 5 days ago :-)
Hurricane Andrew hit us overnight on August 23rd and 24th, 1992.
I know that companies like Home Depot and Lowes did very well with all
the home repairs needed. On the other hand, the insurance industry
took a beating.

I was speaking of Hurricane Andrew NOT Katrina. What I want to know is
which industry groups benefitted most from Hurricane Andrew within 90
days and specifically, what stocks is those groups were the highest 90
days after impact.
(Need baseline and 90 day prices).

I came across this very interesting article in the course of the
search for information about what companies benefitted from Andrew. I
couldn't find what you're looking for but was surprised by some
unsuspected players.
