Michigan. In Mar. 2005 my short marriage (11 mos.)to a verbally and
emotionally abusive and violent man was annulled. In August 2005 I
was diagnosed with Post-Traumatic-Stress-Disorder -- caused by
continuous and severe relationship violence during the marriage. My
psychiatrist estimates I developed the condition between June-August
2004.

Is it reasonable and feasible (as opposed to frivolous) to file a suit
against him for damages caused by this mental disorder? I have extensive
medical and therapy expenses, and those will continue to accrue for at least
another year. I also have suffered a tremendous amount of emotional pain and
suffering due to the condition. (Good news is I will eventually
recover.)

The Annullment was intended to prevent either of us ever again
bringing suit against the other about marital issues. However, at
that time I did not know he had given me a severe anxiety disorder.
Now that I have this information, would it be practical for me to sue
him for both reimbursement and damages?

I couldn't find the answer to this on the Web myself. If the answer
is promising, my next step would be to consult with the appropriate
attorney for details. But if the answer does not look good, I'm going
to forget about it.

Thanks for your help and good luck finding an answer!

There probably will not be insurance coverage for suing your
ex-spouse. However, if he has assets, you may very well be able to
sue him and recover. It isn't unheard of to sue a spouse but it is
unusual. A personal injury lawyer should be able to assess your
specifics.
