Question ID: 563806
My grandmother has a box of great vintage jewelry. I have a pair of
french style enamel cufflinks. They are marked on the back of each
link with the number 5? inside of a circle. It's hard to tell but the
number may be 51 or 57. I am wondering what this mark means. There
are no other markings and I am unsure of the metal (it has a
silver-ish, or even bronzy cast.) My grandmother lived in Equador
(sp) for awhile and her husband was in the military so the cufflinks
could be from just about anywhere.
Thanks so much, if it turns out these are worth something my
thankfulness will be reflected in your tip:)
Thanks
Kimberly

These types of questions are notoriously difficult to investigate
without a picture of the marking. Would it be possible for you to
take a photograph it and place the picture online somewhere? An
alternative to photographing it would be to scan the cufflinks on a
scanner.

From your information, the best I could find was this marking:

Does this resemble your one? Please also let us know any further
information (approximate age etc) that you may have by responding to
this clarification.

Nope, the marking is a raised circle with raised numbers. I have no
clue how old, sorry. I have posted pics in my yahoo folder here is
the link. Thanks so much for your help.

This May be a concept related to the inventory management. Do you have
any clue from where they were bought. Because huge companys started
marking the SKU numbers on their products because if the customer went
back to them and asked for a other piece it would be easy to
find/manufacture the similar one. This would result in customer
satisfaction.
