I would like to receive a broad description of all charitable giving
to nonprofit organizations supporting gay and lesbian youth in the
United States. By "charitable giving", I mean all giving from
individuals, foundations, and corporations. By "youth", I mean GLBTQ
(gay, lesbian, bi, transgendered, and questioning) youth UNDER AGE 21.
I wish to know if statistics are kept, by whom, total giving (if
tracked), and the characteristics of organizations who receive the
donations. |

I should clarify that the giving must be to an organization devoted to
GLBTQ youth. Any giving to mainstream youth organizations would be
irrelevant, even if the mainstream organization was nondiscriminatory.
The organization itself must be devoted to the GLBTQ youth community.

Hello,
Researchers are hesitant to answer a question that says ALL. Could you
give us a number of how many names you want?

Thank you for the clarifying question.
Depending on how you answer the question, it might be moot.
For example, if you can find and report that some agnecy maintains
statistics that I can purchase, then the "ALL" becomes THEIR
reponsibility. That would be acceptable to me.
If instead you are going to research and accumulate names of donors
through your own raw research, then I would accept A MINIMUM OF THREE
DONOR NAMES as a complete answer PROVIDED THAT the donors you name are
foundations still in existence (still operating.)

Hello Mitchell,
An organization called Guidestar tracks non-profit organizations in
the US. I searched their site for [ gay lesbian youth ] and Guidestar
returned a list of 291 organizations that starts off like this:
===============
AFRICAN AMERICAN GAY AND LESBIAN STUDIES CENTER INC
SAN FRANCISCO, CA
ALBUQUERQUE PRIDE INC
Albuquerque, NM
ALSO INC
Sarasota, FL
ALTERNATIVE FAMILY MATTERS INC
Cambridge, MA
AMERICAN LEGACY FOUNDATION
WASHINGTON, DC
Ark of Refuge, Inc.
San Francisco, CA
ARS NOVA INC
Boston, MA
ATTIC YOUTH CENTER
PHILADELPHIA, PA
and so on...
===============
The question, though, is this: What should I do with the list?
Each organization on the list details its finances -- who provides its
major funding, for instance -- but it's quite a chore accessing the
financial information, even for one or two groups. Doing it for all
291 organizations is probably a week's worth of work!
Would the list, itself, be of use to you? (keeping in mind, these are
organizations receiving funds, rather than the funders themselves).
If you wanted to pick out a few groups from the list, I could check on
their funding sources for you. And of course, I'd be glad to show you
how to do this yourself, so you could look into any organization of
interest.
Let me know what you think,

Thanks for the clarifying question. It looks promising. Do you
subscribe to the webpage, and can therefore get the hidden
information?
For the price offered, how many organizations could you detail in this
way? Could you do 7?
If you could give me the ADDRESSES and MAJOR FUNDERS for at least five
of the following organizations, it would be a success...
If you do not have time to complete the list, please go down the list
in order, as I have arranged it in order of preferred interest.
- Sexual Minority Youth Assistance League (Washington, DC)
- YouthPride (Atlanta, GA)
- Time Out Youth (Charlotte, NC)
- Rainbow Youth Support Group (Stockton CA)
- Rainbow Youth Outreach (Peoria, IL)
- Black Hills Area G & L Youth Support and Resource Ctr (Rapid City, SD)
- Ark of Refuge (San Francisco, CA)
Thank you.
- Mitchell
