This month I will take a computer science course at a UC school in
California, as a part time student. I haven't yet confirmed which
school, although I must decide soon. (I am a California resident,
returning from several years abroad.) Recently I asked the opinion of
a software developer whom I highly respect, who was a CS undergraduate
student at UC San Diego in the 1980s. His opinion makes me hesitate
going to UCSD. He said that campus is oriented mostly towards
pre-meds and graduates. I checked the statistics and indeed there are
strong graduate and Health Science programs at the school. In the
past twenty years the school has increased it's strength in computer
science and other areas? |

Dear Aleks,
Are you looking for information on the relative standing/ranking of
the department on an annual basis since 1986?
I am asking not only because I want to understand your question
better, but because I wonder whether this information is really
relevant to your decision. I could provide you lots of information on
the department in the past several years, e.g., since 2002.

Please provide that information, which is better than having nothing
at all to go on. (If it's not too much trouble, please also tell me
it for the Management and Linguistics departments.) The problem is to
assess how the quality for CS students has improved during the past
twenty years. Knowing statistics regarding other relevant factors, as
well, might provide further clues. But perhaps even better may be to
hear the opinion of some UCSD CS graduate(s) of more recent years.

Since several days have passed still with no answer, I will further
clarify the question to be more specific. Please provide information
on the current standing/ranking of the Computer Science departments at
both UCSD and UCSC. For UCSD, please provide some info that may show
how that standing/ranking has changed since 1986. Also, please tell
me the current standing/ranking of the Management and Linguistics
departments at UCSD and UCSC.
