I want to buy a DVD recorder. I currently have a direcTV tivo. I have
heard that shows on HBO, showtime, pay per view etc which I record on
my tivo.... will not be able to be copied to a dvd. Apparently there
is some kind of copy protection signal (cprm?) which will classify
programs as copy once, copy never, etc.

I want to know if this is true? I am not going to go thru the trouble
of buying a dvd recorder... if i am not going to be able to put some
of my favorite shows on dvd?

You could get a Liteon 5045 HDD & DVD recorder. You can then download
the macrovision free firmware from here.
