Unlike oil, metals don't get "used up" by use, so that they tend to
stay around and in circulation for a long, long, time. In fact, steel
is the most widely recycled material in commerce:
http://www.worldsteel.org/faq_what.php
Of the 960 million tons of steel produced in 2003, more than 60% of it
was produced from recycled steel. Steel is the world's most recycled
material; indeed one of the two major steel production techniques uses
exclusively 100% recycled steel...
In addition, most commercial metals are pretty widely available in
enormous quantities in the earth's crust. So...it's unlikely that
metals will run out any time soon.
