Dear henrietta48-ga;

Thank you for allowing me an opportunity to answer your interesting
question. Understandably the authorities are encouraging the use of
only a few databases so the lost and missing can consult only one or
two reliable resources instead of the thousands of lists that
sometimes crop up in the wake of such disasters. Here are the most
reliable at the moment:

ICRC
Family News Network of the International Committee of the Red Cross

MORE UNOFFICIAL, BUT USEFUL SITES

CRAIGS LIST

There are others but these seem to be the most used at this point.

I hope you find that my research exceeds your expectations. If you
have any questions about my research please post a clarification
request prior to rating the answer. Otherwise, I welcome your rating
and your final comments and I look forward to working with you again
in the near future. Thank you for bringing your question to us.

Here's another one. You can search for people who are registered at an
official shelter using this one:

Finally, what appears to be the mother of all Katrina databases:

All-in-one search for Katrina boards and lists from Yahoo!, The Red
Cross, Nola.com, Gulf Coast News, CNN, MSNBC, Earthlink, Operation
Get-In Touch, Public People Locator, CastPost, Family Messages, and
Gulf Coast Hurricane.
