Can someone tell me how many operations to remove part of the liver (called
liver resections, partial hepatectomy, lobectomy) are performed in
Germany each year?
I'm not sure, but WIDO (The Scientific Institute of the Compulsory
Health Insurance Scheme), the DKG (German Institute for Medical
Documentation and Information), the German Hospital Society and DKI
(German Hospital Institute) may have some of this type of information
that can be downloaded. |

Hello again Jess05,
Please download the following document that provides 2002 German Health Statistics.
Publication date: September 2004
http://www-ec.destatis.de/csp/shop/sfg/bpm.html.cms.cBroker.cls?cmspath=struktur,Warenkorb.csp
Instuctions:
1. Choose Einverstanden
2. Click on ?Bestelllung abschicken
I believe the data you need is on page 17
2.4 Mit operation = With operation
2.4.1 Anzahl = Number
2.4.2 Verweildauer= Period spent
Would the number of operations for code C22 serve your purpose?
C22 Bösartige Neubildung der Leber und der intrahepatischen Gallengänge
Leber is liver
The number of operations is 7,303. I can provide this number broken
down by age group.
Please let me know if this is helpful or if you would need other liver
data from this document
Thanks,
Bobbie7

Hi again Bobbie7! I'm having trouble with the link. When I click on
it, there is no option for Einverstanden. The page says "Ihr Warenkorb
ist noch leer."

Hi Bobbie7,
This information is very interesting, but because it lists only the
total number of operations performed for a given diagnosis (liver
cancer), there doesn't seem to be enough detail. It looks like any
operation that is used to treat liver cancer is all lumped into the
number and there is no break down by type of procedure.
I will look back through the PDF to see if there is more detail that I
can get from it.
Best regards,
Jess05
