In my experience, you will have the best luck with cross-platform
voice/video conference software. Happily, you are not required to
enable the video, allowing you to communicate with voice only, if you
like. CU-SeeMe was once the the long-time favorite in this arena,
however, they appear to have dropped support for the Macintosh. If
you can find old versions of the software, that may be of interest.
Ivisit has received some excellent reviews and, importantly, Ivisit
does not require you to first connect to a reflector or server when
communication is between two computers. Given the price (free), I
would suggest trying Ivisit first, and see if it meets your needs. If
everyone you talk to has a Yahoo account, you might also consider
Yahoo Messenger, which now includes voice and video chat features.
