I'm looking for US and European consultants/companies specialized in
helping software companies evaluate and license their patent porfolio.
Ideally, I'm looking at those specialized in the TV sector, and more
specifically Interactive TV. Big names are preferred. |

egrange-ga,
Just checking in...is Via Licensing the type of company you're looking for:
http://www.vialicensing.com/
They are a subsidiary of Dolby, and seem to be one of the bigger names
in the field. You can read about some of their very recent work in
interactive TV here:
http://www.vialicensing.com/news/via_pr_DVB-MHP_OCAP.html
Via Licensing Announces Patent Licensing Terms for Worldwide
Interactive Television Standards DVB-MHP and OCAP
Let me know if this is on target, and I'll see what others I can find.
From a preliminary look, there only appear to be a handful of major
organizations that handle this sort of specialized patent work -- if
you're anticipating a list of more than, say, five organizations,
please let me know that as well.

Yes, this is a very interesting link. These people commercialize
licensing programs in the name of standardizaion bodies (such as DVB
or MPEG). They take all the private patents that fall into those
standards, set a price, a share revenues with all companies who have
provided patents.
I'm looking more for companies that can take an individual patent or
patent portfolio, evalute it, and sell license to whomever may be
infringing them. With no regard to a specific standard.
Thx,

Thanks for the feedback.
I was actually a bit confused, though: is Via Licensing a good find
for you, or off-target?
Also, have a look at Acacia Research:
http://www.acaciaresearch.com/aboutus_main.htm
and let me know what you think of them as well.
Thanks again,

Hello,
Via Licensing is a very good answer, althought not the type I had been
expecting. But very interesting.
Acacia technologies is EXACTLY the kind I'm looking for.
Thx,
EG

egrange-ga,
Thanks for getting back to me.
Outside of Via Licensing and Acacia Research, I'm not finding
companies that are precisely targted to your particular technology
area.
Other companies that are related tend to be either broad-based
technology licensing companies, such as this one:
http://www.iplegalservices.com/transactions.htm
of companies with a speciality in interactive television who enter
into various licensing agreements, but aren't licensing-service
companies, per se. Here's an example:
http://www.norpak.ca/
Are either of these sorts of companies of interest?
If not, it may well be that my answer is limited to Via Licensing and
Acacia Research!!!
Let me know your thoughts at this point.

Hello,
Acacia technologies is exactly the kind I'm looking for. I know they
are not the only one, for I've found others. I asked this question
with that important price tag in order to identify other parties
similar to Acacia.

Is it possible for you to post the names of the other companies you've
identified already? (Keep in mind that this is a public forum).
Knowing the companies you have already would ne a great help in
finding additional companies that fit the same description.
Thanks,
paf
