Question ID: 565710
I just prepared a computer for video editing purposes exclusively
using XP home as the OS and Pinnacle Studio for editing. The C:drive
only holds the OS and Pinnacle installation. I use a slave (E:) for
working on one video at a time. I intend to copy that
video-in-progress on an axternal drive (G:) for safety, and accumulate
several finished videos on that drive until they are burned on DVD's.
So much for the theory.

On my first try I wanted to copy a 322MB file to G:. The copy process
seems to take place for about ten seconds, and then this error msg
pops up:
Cannot copy file - there is not enough disk space. Delete one or more
files and then try again. But 119 GB out 120 disk capacity show as
free.
Any suggestions on how to fix that? What causes that?
The files I wish to copy are read-only, none are systems files. No
idea if anything I want to copy is shared or linked to other files,
but the sum-total of all files anywhere on my computer are far less
than the 120 GB capacity.

Thank you for any help in solving this problem.

I'm wondering if this might be happening because the
external drive is formatted as FAT32. You could try
formatting it as NTFS and see if that makes any
difference.

Thank you, Sublime1, for the quick response. I shall reformat that
disk and let you know later today. I think you may have hit the nail
on the head. Not sure about what that difference implies, but I am
about to find out, I suppose. Fortunately there is nothing on the G:
drive, so there is nothing for me to loose. Am anxious ----

Til later

indeed - that did the trick.
I forgot how to close out this question. But it is answered, payment
should be released, and it clearly is a five-star answer.

Normally it's the researcher that closes the question by
answering it. I hesitated to do that until I knew that my
proposed solution would work. Thanks for verifying that
my suggestion worked.

I'll reproduce the answer here in the formal Answer space:

Glad it worked out well!

I meant to include my search strategy:

"Cannot copy * There is not enough free space"
