ihtfp78,

I located the following figures.

United States
Number of bone marrow transplants performed each year in the United States.
Percentage of all patients that have a perfect match from an immediate relative

Worldwide
Number of bone marrow transplants performed worldwide
Number of transplants using the recipient's own tissue
Number of transplants using tissue from matching donors

Would this data meet your needs?

Thanks,
Bobbie7

The number of bone marrow transplants performed in US -- is that for
related or unrelated donor only, or does it also include autologous
transplants (using own bone marrow)?

I am looking for data for the following categories:

Bone marrow transplants -- (1) unrelated donors; (2) related donors;
(3) autologous or own bone marrow (optional).

Thank you for your clarification.

The U.S. data is for all bone marrow transplants in general. I'll let
you know if I find more relevant figures for you. In any case this
question is still open and perhaps another researcher will find the
exact information you require.

Best regards,
Bobbie7

15,000 bone marrow transplants were performed in the United States in 2002.

Excerpt:

?Of the 15,000 bone marrow transplants performed in 2002, only 2,300
of them were for minorities. A big reason is because minorities resist
donating marrow. Ethnicity and race matters in donor programs. The
Louisville Courier-Journal reported that, according to the Organ
Procurement and Transplantation Network??

According to the Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Transplantation program at
the Yale Cancer Center, only 30 percent of all patients have a perfect
match from an immediate relative.

Excerpt:

?The Allogeneic Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Transplantation program at
the Yale Cancer Center was one of the first cancer centers to use the
procedure. Only 30 percent of all patients have a perfect match from
an immediate relative. Most of the remaining 70 percent wait months to
find a matched donor and some never do.?

"Since only 30 percent of patients needing a matched donor have a
matched family member, most patients rely on the National Marrow Donor
Program (NMDP) donors."

Worldwide

?More than 40,000 bone marrow transplants are performed each year
