What is the name for a person who is capable of causing food to multiply (like Jesus did in the feeding of the 5,000)? I saw this term somewhere recently--and seem to remember that it was Yiddish, Buddhist, etc.--but can't recall. Help! |

I'm not sure this is the word you're after, but I'll take a stab with 'balshem,' 'Baal Shem,' or "Baal Shem Tov": "A Baal Shem Tov in Hebrew translates as "Master of a Good Name", meaning someone who due to his ability to perform super- and supra-good deeds that benefit others, is "given" the title by those who recognize or have benefited from his powers. He is essentially a miracle worker, who supposedly has great spiritual powers. It's a name that was given in the Middle Ages to a Jewish rabbi miracle worker who could bring about cures and healing, as well having mystical powers to foresee or interpret events and personalities. They were considered to have a "direct line" to Heaven evoking God's mercies and compassion on suffering human beings." http://www.fact-index.com/b/ba/baal_shem_tov.html Best, ?V? |
