I am concidering selling U.S. made Beef Jerky in the country of
Australia. I am aware of all the import/export requierments however
would opening a business selling beef jerky in Australia be a smart
idea? and is there a potential market for this sort of thing to make
money? I know americans love beef jerky however on my recent travels
to Australia, beef jerky is often very hard to find.

I wood encourage you to export beef jerky to Germany, here is no beef
jerky at all, and I promise to be your first client :-), since I had
eaten it on my 7000miles travel in US 2002

Captbrent,
I dunno if it would sell. I spent some time Down Under and live in
Germany. Countries have different traditional tastes. Beef Jerky in
USA ties in with a positive tradition towards the Plains Indians -
besides being good, of course. But in "Oz" that tradition does not
exist, and I expect it could not be popularized.
(In relation to your other question, I was thinking of suggesting
dosing it with nicotine and selling it in cigarette sized packs, but I
doubt that would be legal. But I was trying to be positive. ;)
Different traditional tastes: two examples: peanut butter and Vegemite.
You didn't try Vegemite? Get an idea here:

One could say, anyone who likes Vegemite will eat anything, but it ain't true.
Ditto for peanut butter. In Europe the response to peanut butter is:
"Uhg, it sticks to your palate. And US kids like it?"

For Moewitz, here is a recipe for jerky: http://www.microwebtech.com/
Cheers, Myoarin
