How can a person with no hollywood connections obtain tickets to
attend a movie premier and after-parties?

I know that some are offered through contests and online auctions, but
is there another way for the general public to obtain them?

FYI, I'm a 40 year old secretary working for a small law firm who
lives in New York, but travels on business to Los Angeles. So info on
both cities would be great.
