I am looking for a (possibly discontinued) Italian floor tile, see http://home.comcast.net/~johnphilipdawson/index.html for a picture. They are 34 cm x 34 cm, or slightly less than 13.5" on a side. The edges are uneven (surface is chipped to reveal material underneath top glaze) and bevelled, and the corners are rounded (approx 1/4" radius). The color is terra cotta with the appearance of a whitewash (however this is part of the glaze). I need 120 of them but would take more. In case it helps to locate them, the bottom is ribbed with several thin ribs then a thicker rib. |

Hello johnpd-ga, We've had lots of question from people with similar quests for tiles. It might be helpful to you to review some of these prior questions. You might find something that will give you a source for your tile or suggest better ways of helping to identify the tile you have so a researcher can attempt to search for it. http://answers.google.com/answers/search?q=floor+OR+ceramic+OR+discontinued+tile&qtype=all Good luck. ~ czh ~ |

Hi, Regarding sources, I did already look through prior queries to see if there were any leads to sources for discontinued tiles. Obviously the people asking the questions normally don't know sources; and the answers are usually fairly specific, such as such-and-such a distributor has the tile you are looking for. If there are any questions or responses that have more general information about finding tiles, such as clearinghouses for discontinued tiles, I'd be happy to see the reference -- please provide as a comment. The only one I know of (found a different way) is Bullnose Tile in San Jose, CA. I have checked with them already. Regarding better ways to identify the tile, unfortunately I do not know the manufacturer; I have looked at the sides and bottom of several tiles pried up from the floor but have only seen "Italy" and the number "9596". I do not know if this number is a lot number, a manufacturer's part number, or what -- and googling for that number along with various other search terms has not yielded any useful result, so I did not include it in the description since it may be misleading. The tiles were installed probably 11 years and two owners ago which is why I don't know the manufacturer. I did include a link to a picture of a tile, a verbal description, and exact size -- is there something else specifically that would be helpful? Thanks, John |
