on average how many pine needles does a christmas tree have and does
the number of needles grow exponentially as a tree gets taller?

I was thinking a Virginia Pine (Pinus Virginianan), sorry for not
being specific.  But if anyone has an answer for an alternative
cultivar then please let me know.

I am sure the answer to your question will depend on the variety of
tree ie Scots Pine, Norway Spruce, Douglas Fir, etc.  Maybe you could
clarify!
