I am thinking about selling smokeless tabacco in Austrailia, however i
am not sure if there is a market for that. What i need you to do is to
research if that would be a good money making oppurtunitiy. On my
recent travels to Austrailia i realize that there is no places that
sell smokeless tabacco.

Dear captbrent737-ga,

The reason you never saw smokeless tobacco in Australia is that it was
banned by Federal Legislation in 1991. You cannot import the product
(greater than 1.5kg) without a permit and you also commit a criminal
offence if you try to sell it.

?A corporation found selling the products may incur a maximum penalty
of $100,000, and an individual found selling smokeless tobacco can be
fined up to $20,000?

Australian Customs

?Description: Chewing tobacco and oral snuff if imported in quantities
greater than 1.5 kg.

?Snuffed out
Customs officers at international airports around Australia report
that they have recently seized numerous packages containing chewing
tobacco and oral snuff from arriving travellers. Chewing tobacco and
certain types of snuff are now considered prohibited imports unless
prior approval has been obtained. Permission to import must come from
the Minister for Financial Services and Regulation, who is responsible
for administering the relevant section of the Trade Practices Act. The
types of snuff that are restricted are those intended for oral use
which are rubbed on the lips and gums. These are a completely
different product to nasal snuffs, which are permitted.?

They seem to be very active at enforcing the restrictions on importation.
