My connection to the Internet closes after 5 minutes and displays the
message "the page cannot be displayed". This has just started
happening and previously there was no problem with the Internet
connection. I have not added anything to the system and have not
altered any settings. My emails contiuue to come through without any
problem.

alisca-ga,

It sounds like you may have a browser-related issue although, it is
hard to tell with so little information.

You said your email works but your browser does not.

Please try an alternate browser such as FireFox.
See: GetFirefox.com

If the alternate browser (firefox) works the issue is related to your old browser.

If this is the case, try reinstalling your internet browser.

How can you receive emails and not have a connection to the internet?
I'm guessing you're still connected to the internet but you can't
display any webpages. If that's the case, your problem is most likely
with DNS.

If it's a DNS problem try using the IP's of the webpages you're trying
to visit. Such as 216.109.118.70 instead of a URL such as
http://www.yahoo.com. If you're able to access webpages using IP's and
not URL's, contact your ISP about DNS problems.

This could have possibly happened because of a virus.

check your task manager and if you find the process "iexplre.exe"
running (might sometimes be overlooked with "iexplore.exe" which is
the system process), that is it. You've got the worm.

There are no special fixes from norton or any other sites to fix this.

Download the AVG anti-virus with the latest updates and scan your computer.
This is delete the virus from your computer.

Happy internetting ;)

hello alisca,
This generally happens due to two reasons,
one: the netwrok speed is slow
two: some program is making your PC slow.
In the first case, you must change you ISP and/or network cord.
For the second case, first install a good antivirus and check your
system for a presence of the virus. If you have already installed the
anti-virus, then this is the reason for the speed. Uninstall and
re-install the antivirus or just try disabling it.

Hope you will be able to solve the problem.

I had the same problem on my toshiba once. They told me to go to the
control panel.Select Network and Internet Connections/Internet
Options.
Then Under the "General" tab, click the "delete cookies" button, click
the "delete files" buttom, click the "clear history" buttom.
This solved my problem,I hope it solves yours.
