Almighty God made it possible for both Jesus and the early apostles to perform miracles to establish the fact that they had God's blessing [ to the ordinary and mostly illiterate people]. Jesus himself stated that he could do nothing of his own initiative [John 5;19,30...7;28...8;28,42...10;18] Once the early Christian congregations became established, miracles were no longer required. The apostle Paul stated as much in First Corinthians 13;8-11..." whether there are gifts of prophecying...they will cease.....Now that we have the Bible, an insight into what God desires us to do, no more miracles...through God...occur. This though, does not stop Satan, the present 'ruler of the world' [John 16;11]from carrying out actions, not understood by us, but seemingly coming from God. 2Corinthians 11;14 states that Satan can be ' an angel of light' meaning what he can do can look quite O.K. and the sort of thing that even God might agree with. But the bottom line is that Paul said miracles by God would be done away with, and they have been. |

Spoken by someone who has never been on a mission field no doubt. If you want to believe that miracles have ceased based on a horrible interpretation of a passage that doesn't even come close to saying what you want it to say, then go ahead. Your belief will hand-cuff God's hands behind his back in your church community. |

Note: this is not a question of religious content. Skguha-ga has carefully defined "miracles". I don't expect that a count of all newspaper reports that use the word would qualify, even if the multiple reports of single events could be netted out, but maybe that could be a start. |

for Sanzyu. Excuse my ignorance, but what is your version of a 'mission field'. maybe missionaries doing assistance work on behalf of less fortunate people?. There is no more satisfying work. But the scriptures are there for all to read. If your translation of the same scripture reads any different, just quote it word for word and show me where I am wrong. As for tying God's hands, no one can do that, and if He chooses to have miraculous things happen, He will do so. But in so doing, He would negate what the Apostle Paul said....they will cease...it will be done away with. Here is an example of just what Satan can do do to 'blind' the minds of people.. In my state, a small porcelain statue of Jesus' mother, Mary, was found to be weeping tears of what seemed to be some form of oil. All the local Catholics and their priests begain claiming a miracle from the "Mother of God". For me, Mary is the respected mother of Jesus, but never the mother of God. The sick and lame came in droves. So far, no one has been cured. No one can explain the oil. Where would oil come from in a porcelain statue. I simply ask, why would God, who has asked us to avoid Icons and statuary [ Exodus 20;4,5..Leviticus 26;1] cause something like this to happen. But Satan surely would, to maintain the false teachings of the trinity concept. True worshippers of God obey John 4;23,24 and worship in spirit and truth. Two other scriptures back this up. 2Corinthians 5;7 and Isaiah 40;18. Two more clarifying points. Almighty God had no beginning and has no end. Jesus did have a beginning [ Proverbs 8;22-30..John 8;58 & 17;5] before he was born to Mary. |

For pugwashjw-ga: please stop cluttering my comments thread with your puerile theological debate. Every time you post to the thread I get e-mailed and falsely hope someone might have said something relevant to my question. I don't care whether you think miracles actually happen or not, nor what the Bible has to say about it, and this is not the forum for you to spout off on it. For you to continue in this manner is rude and self-serving, hardly worthy of a Christian, if that's what you claim to be. If you have anything useful to say in answer to my question, say it. Otherwise, please stay off this thread. |
