When converting my CD collection to MP3 files, i notice that both
Windows Media Player and Apple Itunes copy the Disk Digital Id into
the comment field. How do i 1) Remove the existing Digital Id's from
current MP3 files on my computer without accessing the file, selecting
properties, summary, comments and deleting---(there must be a faster
way to delete all comments in all my MP3 files) and 2) How do i avoid
copying the CD's Digital Id's in the future (a better program for
copying to MP3?, a share ware file that deletes the Digital Id's? or
a setting in Windows Media Player or Itunes that does not copy the
Digital Id's. ----and finally, is anyone collecting Digial Id
information out there in Internet Land??

Try Media Monkey (www.mediamonkey.com). Great mass-editing and
organizing of mp3's wma's, etc.

1) To remove the Digital Rights Management (DRM) go and download Jhymn
at (http://www.hymn-project.org). That application will remove the
DRM on multiple files or even entire folders.
2) To avoid that problem in the future I would suggest downloading
WinAmp (http://www.winamp.com). Winamp has an excellent song browser
similar to iTunes and functionality with iPods through a third party
addon available on their site. Good luck!

A better solution than winamp if you're looking to archive your music
is EAC, or Exact Audio Copy. website: www.exactaudiocopy.de

Exact Audio Copy creates an exact copy of the music you rip, with the
option to do multiple passes in the event of an error. It also has a
plethora of options for song naming schemes and such. I've started to
archive all of my CDs on my computer and I've been using EAC for all
of it, and I haven't had any problems with the software or with the
music itself.

While the site says EAC is in beta, it's a very stable program and
even MaximumPC, a PC enthusiast magazine in the US, has praised EAC
(with a 'best software in its category' (softy) award in its February
2005 issue).
